John 3:5 — Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Context:
Water → Word of God / Word of Life
Spirit → Work of the Holy Spirit in a new believers life
Both of these are essential. A person must be born of the Word and the Spirit to be truly born again and experience the new birth in Christ.
God uses water here to help us understand that life is renewed—not the same as our first birth, but a new birth of the Spirit. Water is an essential part of this process: the Water and the Spirit.

Pray in.
1. Washing
John 3:5 — Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit
A believer must be purified by the Word of God and washed in the blood of Christ in order to truly live for Christ.
What happened in the Garden of Eden changed the course of human history. Through the actions of God’s creations—Adam and Eve—sin entered the world.
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And it did not take long before evil entered the world, and later Adam and Eve, chose evil because of pride and lust.
God created mankind to worship Him, to love and obey Him willingly. This is why Adam and Eve were tested. They could eat freely from every tree in the garden—except one: the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If they ate the forbidden truit, not only would they die physically and spiritually, but all of mankind would also face death.

2. Wellspring
John 4:14 — But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
Although not explicitly stated in John 3:5, this is precisely what the Christian experiences through the new birth—an inner wellspring of life flowing from the Spirit of God.
In Christ, we can look forward to a life enriched in God—because His life and His Word are from everlasting to everlasting. They never end.
John 4 has 5 W’s
The Well
The Water
The Word
The Worship
The Witness
Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well, offering her not ordinary water, but living water.

3. Witness
John 3:5 — First Two-Fold Witness (New Birth)
Water and Spirit — Together, these are two agents involved in the new birth — a two-fold witness to the work of salvation
Romans 8:16 — Second Two-Fold Witness (Assurance of Salvation)
“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:”
This refers to the witness of identity:
The Holy Spirit testifies that we are a child of God
Our human spirit responds in agreement
This is another two-fold witness — this time to the assurance of salvation
A twofold witness is all that is necessary for men (Deut. 19:15, Mt. 18:16, Jn. 8:17), but God has given us three!

Conclusion
John 3:5 — Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
The Bible is clear — Ye MUST be born again! (Jn. 3:3)
So the question is this:
Have you been washed by the Word? Have you been made new by the Spirit?
“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:” (Rom. 8:16)
